You see the emails come into your inbox at least once a week. Each time there’s a new sale on an exciting new destination for your to discover. The catch, however, is that you aren’t allowed to take on any checked bags. Zero. Not even if you pay.
This is often enough to turn most people off, choosing to spend their weekend doing the same thing they do every other weekend. However, for those who know the right tips on what to take and what to leave behind, it means more available vacation options!
Below are some tips on how to be the latter.
Not What to Pack, but How
Before you consider what you are going to pack you first need to learn how to pack. While you may be used to folding your clothes into a square as if you were going to place them onto a clothes shelf, instead, just fold in the sleeves or double the pant legs and roll them up tightly from the bottom. This is a great technique to help you get the most out of your carry on.
Now, Time for the What
Start with your pants. It’s reasonable to expect that you will need no more than two pairs of pants. One will be a casual pair which you can wear during our leisure activities and the other will be a smarter pair which you wear to dinner. If you don’t have a suitable pair of pants for hiking, check out the Groupon Coupons page for 6PM before you leave to pick up some breathable pants.
Now to your shirts. A strict rule of allowing one shirt per day that you are away will keep your bag light. Depending on where you are going, you will either want to choose loose and breathable clothing or warm and covering items.
Time for your shoes. This one is an easy one. You only need two pairs of shoes, and one pair will be worn on the plane. Whichever two you choose, be sure to wear the heaviest or the bulkiest pair to keep your bag size down.
The TSA is very helpful in this regard by limiting what items you can take on the plane with you. Here are the only items you will need:
- Dental Floss
- Travel size perfume/cologne
- Small amount of makeup
That’s it. No more. Now, while you are probably thinking that this isn’t anywhere near enough to get you through your regular morning routine, remember that your accommodation is going to provide anything else you need in the bathroom each morning.
Remember What You’re Wearing
Last, but certainly not least, it’s a tip to remember that you will be wearing an entire outfit on the plane. This means that you can have an entire additional outfit to work with while you are away, so choose wisely. As an example, I once wore three baseball caps on a flight once to save on baggage.
These easy tips are all it takes to pack a weekend away into a case small enough for you to take advantage of a cheap vacation deal!
